South West London Postnatal Counselling Service
The South West London Postnatal Counselling service provides one to one counselling and support for mothers and their partners from pregnancy to birth and beyond.
We have a team of counsellors who specialise in supporting mothers and their partners with a wide range of issues, including birth trauma and also postnatal depression. Other issues we work with include anxiety, parenting difficulties and relationship difficulties. Parents with children of all ages can refer themselves to the service.
As a service we recognise that becoming a parent is a major life change and can evoke many mixed and unexpected feelings. Counselling can provide a safe and non judgemental space to help you gain perspective and empower you to develop your own solutions and unique way of being a parent.
Our consulting rooms are in central Kingston, easily accessible by bus and rail, with carparks within a five minute walk. You are welcome to bring your baby to the session.
The first step in the process is to come for an initial consultation session. This can be helpful to work out if therapy is going to be the right thing for you and if it has potential to help you with the difficulties that you face. We will then offer short or more ongoing sessions depending on what you need.

Julia Reissmann (Manchester area)
Advanced Diploma in Counselling
Foundation training in Group Analysis
Postgraduate Diploma in Hypnosis for medical practitioners
MA in Counselling
BSc in Midwifery
I am a BACP registered counsellor working part-time in the NHS as a Perinatal Counsellor as well as working privately. I see people individually and sometimes run groups. I was a midwife for 18 years so have an in-depth understanding of the birth process and the many ways in which it can have a life-changing effect on women (and men). The medical system can feel overwhelming so that sometimes your own voice gets lost in the momentum of choices and procedures, leaving a feeling of powerlessness, confusion or fear. This is together with the fact that childbirth is such a huge event –affecting the body, relationships, life choices and self-image as well as potentially bringing up any difficult experiences of childhood or of being parented, as well as connecting to previous trauma.
I have a particular interests in:
Birth trauma –whether physical or psychological
Fear of childbirth
Needle and other phobias
Antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression
Making sense of being a parent/having a baby
Pregnancy and birth for those who have experienced sexual trauma
Trauma in Health Care professionals
I work in an integrative way primarily using the therapeutic relationship as the medium of change, together with using attachment models, compassionate mind and hypnosis when appropriate within the counselling. I am trained in the Rewind Technique for reprocessing traumatic memories.
Sometimes only a small number of sessions are required in order to deal with an experience you have been through, and for others it can be part of a longer process of understanding and making deeper changes in your life.

Transitioning into parenthood can be a uniquely personal and challenging experience for anyone, and as an Integrative Therapist with an MA in Relationship Therapy I am able to offer professional insight and help with the healing process, and can be supportive of the journey towards narrating our own stories for ourselves and our families.

BABCP Accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapist
I provide psychosexual, relationship and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and have a special interest in working with clients, both women and men who have experienced a traumatic birth, using trauma focused CBT. I am an experienced midwife with additional experience working as a specialist midwife in perinatal mental health. I have completed a BSc in reproductive and sexual health, a COSRT accredited postgraduate diploma in psychosexual therapy, a Relate certificate in relationship counselling and a BABCP accredited postgraduate diploma in CBT. I’m currently employed as a psychosexual therapist for the NHS, offering treatments for sexual difficulties. I am also employed as a specialist midwife for the NHS. My CBT training enables me to provide evidence based NICE recommended treatment for PTSD. I am a registered member of the BACP.
Christina Johnson : Health Psychologist BSc (Hons) MSc, Hypnobirthing Practitioner Dip HB(KG), Birth and Postnatal Doula(Doula UK), Maternity Nurse, Newborn Behavioural Practitioner ( NBO Brazelton Centre).

I am committed to working with those who are experiencing distress, anxiety, depression and trauma related symptoms.
I will provide a safe and nurturing space for you to explore your feelings and thoughts. I will treat you with kindness and compassion.
Sometimes life presents us with huge challenges and we can at times feel broken, powerless, out of control, afraid, angry and sad. At such times it is important that we connect with others be it professionals, friends or family to give us hope, strength, encouragement and to help us find a way forward. Do reach out for the support that you need and deserve.

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist
I am an Accredited CBT Therapist with over 10 years of experience in supporting people with mental health problems.
My specialism is in working with new fathers who have found the transition to parenthood particularly challenging. I use both CBT and EMDR therapies to work with Post-natal Depression, Birth-related PTSD, Anxiety and OCD, amongst other problems.
My interest in working with New Dads was triggered by my own experiences of developing post-natal depression and trauma related symptoms following being present at a traumatic birth. I found that it was particularly difficult to ask for, and receive, appropriate help at the time. As such, I work hard to allow my clients to feel acknowledged, supported and valued. I only provide treatments which are recommended by the government clinical body NICE.

I am an existential therapist with 15 years’ experience of working with a broad range of mental health problems. I specialise in working with mothers, having completed my doctoral research into the transition to motherhood for first-time mothers.
Motherhood is a life-changing event, which can leave women feeling out of their depth, unprepared, exhausted, emotional – both depressed and anxious - and at times traumatised. Mothers can feel a range of emotions and each mother responds to her birth, baby, and thoughts about being a mother differently. In particular, I have successfully worked with the following issues:

Birth Trauma Counselling, Psychotherapy. Clinical Supervision. Midwife.
Counselling Premises are close to all motorways.
I am midwife, perinatal and birth trauma specialist with over 7 years’ experience counselling women and men in an NHS setting. My private practice enables me to see many clients who do not have access to this type of care. The physical and emotional trauma which parents describe is helped greatly by trauma care specific to individual need. I use a birth trauma rewind technique, trauma focused CBT, Debrief and various tools that empower and heal. This model or way of working has been audited and demonstrates that 93% of women receive an immediate reduction in the level of anxiety they are experiencing. Normally 3-4 sessions is sufficient to quieten Post Trauma Symptoms; eg anxiety, panic attacks, re-living, nightmares, anger and guilt. I provide tools too so that clients can own the healing process between sessions. I help plan the new birth experiences with couples, to empower them to have a different voice in a subsequent birth. As a midwife I act as an advocate for clients.
I welcome enquiries from women or men in relation to any of the following:
